Nintendo Wii is back in black
Those familiar with Nintendo will remember that starting back with the GameBoy Color the company has had an obsession with releasing their systems in every color imaginable. While this has mostly been true of the portable systems, we did also receive a Pikachu flavored Nintendo 64 console. The question lately has been, what about the Wii?
Actually, it hasn’t just been lately. Ever since Nintendo showed off different colored Wii remotes people have been guessing at when the whole system (and those colored remotes) would come to consumers. Wonder no more. Nintendo has announced that a black Wii system, along with controllers, will hit Japan August 1. No word yet on when it might come to other countries.
When this does eventually come to the US hopefully it will quiet the small minority of gamers who refuse to buy any electronics that aren’t black. This is a phenomenon I have never understood. My entertainment center features a black television, black audio receiver, grey cable receiver, black DVD player, and two white gaming consoles (unfortunately, this is a smattering of the gear mucking things up down there). The white consoles have never bothered me, and rarely does anyone pay them any bother. In fact, I’d wager if asked most guests to my house could not identify the color of those consoles. Still, you know, great for those who care.
